About IVTOM

Mission Statement

International Voice Teachers of Mix (IVTOM) is a non-profit organization that provides education, accreditation, interaction, and community for teachers who continually endeavor to be the best in their field.  We strive to teach natural, unaffected, and healthy vocal production, with a return to pure bel canto singing in all styles.

History

Since our founding in 2010, IVTOM has maintained the objective of supporting teachers who take responsibility for continually expanding their knowledge of teaching the art and science of singing. Members include new voice teachers who are just beginning to develop the craft of teaching mix; highly trained professionals who hold degrees and certifications from the world’s best universities and associations; and specialized experts, including otolaryngologists, speech pathologists, and voice scientists.  In response to a high demand for training new teachers, IVTOM launched a teacher accreditation program in 2014.  All members, both highly experienced and inexperienced, have access to ongoing education, a mentor program, student teacher training, regional workshops, and international conferences that provide unparalleled access to medical and scientific professionals who specialize in the human voice.

What is Mix?

“Mix” is a technique that can be applied to any style of singing.  It gives singers the capability to perform with a smooth, strong, balanced, and continuous sound, from the bottom to the top of their vocal register, typically with a range that extends far beyond where they began. Singers who mix can easily transition through the bridges in their voice without strain, blending registers effortlessly. They can focus on performing a song, whatever their musical style, because their voices are strong, flexible, and reliable.
